Compassionate care for your furry family members
Our Philosophy
At Shaker Square Animal Hospital, we believe that the best approach to caring for your four-legged loved ones is to take a holistic view of their health and well-being. This means combining the best practices of traditional medicine with alternative modalities such as acupuncture, herbal medicines, food therapy, and laser therapy. Our integrative approach to veterinary medicine focuses on evaluating the whole animal and preventing disease and maintaining overall health, rather than simply treating disease and suppressing symptoms.
Our Services
As a comprehensive animal hospital, we offer a range of services designed to meet the unique needs of your pet. Our integrative approach to veterinary medicine incorporates traditional diagnostic tools and therapeutic modalities, such as acupuncture, herbal medicines, food therapy, and laser therapy, to promote overall health and well-being.
Traditional Western Medicine
We utilize diagnostic tools such as blood work and digital imaging to help determine the cause of an illness. Once the cause is determined, we use powerful medicines to cure the illness or alleviate symptoms. We are particularly skilled in treating acute conditions or severe medical conditions, such as infections with high fevers, congestive heart failure, or seizures.
Laser Therapy
Our K-Laser Class IV therapeutic lasers deliver specific red and near-infrared wavelengths of laser light to induce a photochemical reaction and therapeutic effect. Physiological effects include increased circulation, reduced inflammation, pain reduction, and enhanced tissue healing. Laser therapy has been used in Europe since the 1970s and was cleared by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2005.
Dr. Nam Kim, DVM
As a veterinarian, I have always been passionate about providing the best possible care for my patients. My journey to becoming a veterinarian began after leaving the business world, where I worked in finance and non-profit sectors in New York City. I enrolled in veterinary school, earning my degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. After completing my clinical year at The Ohio State School of Veterinary Medicine, I began my career at a small animal clinic in Brooklyn and East Village. I took additional training in veterinary acupuncture, herbal medicine, and food therapy at the Chi Institute of Chinese Veterinary Medicine. I am excited to bring my knowledge and expertise to the Shaker Square Animal Hospital and serve the greater Cleveland community.
Chelsea, Lead Veterinary Technician
As a graduate of Juniata College with a degree in Biopsychology, I began my career in research labs and the mental health field. However, my passion for animals led me to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. With a strong interest in animal welfare and behavior, I hope to continue my education and eventually apply to veterinary school. When not working, you can find me with my four cats, two dogs, and an ancient guinea pig in Downtown Cleveland. I enjoy running, stargazing, and hiking, and most importantly, being a couch potato with my dog, Vinnie the best.
Emily, Receptionist/Assistant
Growing up in the country, I had the opportunity to grow up surrounded by animals. I always had a love for animals and a desire to work in the veterinary field. After starting my career in research labs and the mental health field, I realized that my true calling was in veterinary medicine. I am excited to be a part of the Shaker Square Animal Hospital team and continue to develop my skills as a veterinary assistant.
