Our Story
Clayton Road Veterinary Hospital has been serving the Chesterfield community for over 50 years, providing top-notch veterinary care to our furry friends and their families. Our hospital was founded by Dr. A. James Furlong, who graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1964. After completing a four-year internship at a charter American Animal Hospital Association practice, Dr. Furlong moved to Chesterfield in 1968 to establish the first veterinary practice in the area. In 1981, he built the current hospital, which has since become a staple in the community.

A. James Furlong, DVM / President
Dr. Furlong is the founder of Clayton Road Veterinary Hospital, and has been caring for pets in the Chesterfield community for over 50 years. He graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1964, and has a deep understanding of the importance of providing quality care to pets and their families.
David Furlong, Managing Director / Vice President
David Furlong is the son of Dr. A. James Furlong, and has been working alongside his father for over 30 years. He is highly skilled and knowledgeable, and has a passion for delivering exceptional medical care.
Karen Hart, DVM
Dr. Karen Hart is a St. Louis native, and has been practicing veterinary medicine in the area for over 20 years. She is a specialist in internal medicine, emergencies, and feline medicine, and is dedicated to providing the highest level of care to her patients.
Hospital Hours
Our hospital is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm, Tuesday and Thursday until 5:00pm, and Saturday from 8:00am to 1:00pm.
