Meet Dr. Rogers
Dr. Ernest Rogers is the primary veterinarian at Maplewood Animal Clinic and is available during "Doctor's Scheduled Hours". Dr. Rogers has been involved with Maplewood Animal Hospital since 2004 and has been the sole owner and principal veterinarian since May 2006. He received a combined Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BSc. Honors) degree from the University of Guelph in Canada and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from Tuskegee University, School of Veterinary Medicine. Additionally, he holds an advanced degree, Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph. D.) in Veterinary Toxicology and Pharmacology, from Virginia Tech.
Dr. Rogers has been named the New Jersey State SPCA Humane Police's first state-wide Forensic Veterinarian. He was chosen for this important position because of his many years of police consultation, involvement in prosecutions, medical examinations, investigation of animal crimes, crime scene investigation, evidence collection, and forensic photography. He also provides expert witness reports and court testimony.
Dr. Rogers serves as the Immunology Chair and consultant to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)'s Council on Biological and Therapeutic Agents (COBTA). This group advises and develops policy for the AVMA on policy and information and acts as an advisory resource to government agencies on issues related to veterinary biologics, drugs, and other therapeutic agents. He was recently featured in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association for his work in forensics.
A published author of scientific papers and book chapters, he also has served as an expert witness in animal cruelty. Dr. Rogers is currently the editor on topics related to forensic medicine for the professional medical journal Clinical Veterinary Practice Today.
Dr. Rogers is the resident expert on the South Orange - Maplewood Community Television (SOMA-TV) program called "You and Your Pets, " which runs in Maplewood on Comcast Channel 35 and Verizon FiOS Channel 24 and in South Orange on Cablevision Channel 18 and Verizon FiOS Channel 44.
