The Spartanburg Humane Society, serving Spartanburg County since 1964, stands as a beacon of compassion and care for animals in need. Our journey began with a group of dedicated citizens, led by Mary Frances Grimes, who established the Spartanburg Animal Welfare League (SAWL) with the goal of providing humane solutions to the ever-present issue of homeless animals. Driven by Mrs. Grimes' vision, the organization has evolved significantly, transitioning into the Spartanburg Humane Society and witnessing a remarkable increase in our "live release" rate while concurrently reducing the average length of stay for animals in our care.
